New Class Release

The latest release of Class is here! Version 6.3.50 is one of our biggest releases in recent years and has over 60 enhancements and new features. For a full list of what the new features are, visit our website and check out the Class Release Notices section. Below are just a few of the many enhancements included:

UKBA SMS Bulk File Transfer

Schools that have been running the beta-release of Class have advised us that they found using the new bulk file upload option, to the UKBA on-line SMS, was efficient even for a single CAS request. If you need any help in getting started using this, please contact the support desk.

English UK Statistics Submission Files from Class

Members of English UK will be pleased to hear that we have amended the Class English UK Statistics report layout and format to match the template supplied by English UK. We have had to introduce a sequence field to the Class country settings to allow the exported country list to appear in the specified English UK order, but once you have set this up, your quarterly submission files are just a click away! English UK have approved the new file format and have already accepted the statistics from one of our local schools.

Enhanced Ledger Aged Debt 'Date Spread' Option

Within the Class Ledger Aged Debt report, there is now a new 'Dated Debt' option that spreads the debt out over the duration of each of the booked items. This can be extremely useful for Students who pay in stages, to ensure payments cover the consumed portion of the course, accommodation, transfer or sundry item.

Ledger — Receipt Allocations by Price Item

Instead of allocating payments to the booking categories, you can now allocate to the individually booked items. If you do not wish to use this option it can be switched off by changing the Ledger options in the Company settings. We would be grateful for any feedback to the support desk on this new functionality... positive or negative!

Promotions — Copy Feature

Running the same promotion but for a different period? You can now create new promotions by copying existing ones. This saves a lot of time in setting them up.

The Class 'Wish List'

Your suggestions and recommendations for Class enhancements, that you send through, all go onto the Class Wish List and we regularly review them. Each release of Class includes some items off the wish list to ensure Class keeps up with your expectations and requirements.

So far this year we have included over 30 items already, so keep them rolling in!

Tips & Tricks

Quick Reports

If the column headings are too long or you want to rename them, click on the blue field at the top of the column to amend it. Once you exit the Quick Report, this amendment will be saved.

Groups

For easy identification of the Group Leader, put the word "Leader" in the Code field located in the Student's General Tab. This will then be displayed on the "Students" tab within the Group.

Invoicing

If you print your invoices from within the enrolment (not via the batch facility), it is worthwhile checking that none have been missed. To do this, run the Unprinted Invoices Report by clicking on the Accounting/Admin menu and selecting Accounting\Invoice\Unprinted Invoice Report.

Techies' Corner

Thinking of upgrading your hardware, operating systems or Microsoft products? There are a number of factors to consider when choosing, but from a Class perspective, here are a couple of items that we are asked about...

Thinking of trying to move up to 64-bit processor power?

Although Class is a 32-bit based system, you can incorporate the power of 64-bit PCs and Servers to run Class and also to maintain your Class databases and document store. When purchasing 64-bit machines, double-check the specification to ensure that it is x86 compliant. x86 is required to allow the PC/Server to also run 32-bit applications. If in any doubt about the specification of a new machine, contact the support desk who will put you in touch with one of our engineers!

Supported Microsoft Products

The following is a list of the Microsoft 32-bit application software that is currently supported for running the Class application:

Operating System
Microsoft SQL Server 32-bit
Microsoft Office 32-bit

PC - Windows 2000

SQL Server 2000

Office 2000

PC - Windows XP Professional

SQL Server 2005 (Standard Edition)

Office 2003 (Standard Edition)

PC - Vista Business Edition

SQL Server 2005 Express

Office 2003 (Professional Edition)

PC - Windows 7 Business Edition

SQL Server 2008 (Standard Edition)

Office 2007 (Standard Edition)

Server - Server 2000

SQL Server 2008 Express

Office 2007 (Professional Edition)

Server - Server 2003

Server - Server 2008

Server - Server 2008 (64-bit x86)

Backups — Important Reminder

Have you checked your backup routine is working correctly? Have you carried out a test restore?

If your server goes down we can replace your programs but cannot replace your data!

We cannot stress enough just how important it is to validate your backup media, not only for content, but also your ability to restore from it. Give yourself some piece of mind and get your techies to run a test restore on a scheduled basis!

Free Refresher's Sessions

We offer free online Refresher's Sessions to all customers with a current Connected Support Contract, to help you make the best use of Class. Due to their popularity, we are now holding four sessions for each of the Refreshers. These 20-minute sessions are aimed at experienced users.
